What’s Next for Identity Security in Africa? A Conversation with SPG

Ahead of SIT Africa forum 2025, we sat down with Tarek Latrous, Sales and Marketing Director at SPG, to talk about the role of PAM and IAM solutions, regional trends in North and West Africa, and what to expect from our joint presence in Morocco.

SPG has been working closely with Axidian to bring advanced access and identity management solutions to organizations across Francophone Africa.

In this conversation, Tarek shares how local cybersecurity priorities are evolving, why the partnership with Axidian makes strategic sense, and what participants can expect from Axidian and SPG at this year’s event.

What are the key factors businesses should consider when choosing an IT distributor for security and cloud solutions?

When choosing an IT distributor for security and cloud solutions, businesses should look beyond product availability. The real value lies in expertise, support, and the ability to deliver long-term reliability.

At SPG, we believe three factors are critical:

First, technical guidance — a distributor should be able to advise on architecture, integration, and the best-fit solutions for each business case.

Second, local and regional support — not just pre-sales, but also post-sales assistance, training, and service continuity.

Third, a partnership mindset — a distributor must work as an extension of the reseller’s team, helping them grow their business, not just fulfill orders.

That’s what we focus on at SPG: delivering innovation, responsiveness, and sustainable value to every part of the ecosystem: vendors, partners, and end customers alike.

What are the industries in North and West Africa where identity security is most critical, and why?

In North and West Africa, PAM and IAM solutions are most critical in finance, government, telecom, and healthcare.

These sectors handle massive volumes of sensitive data — personal, financial, or operational — and are frequent targets for attacks like credential theft and unauthorized access. For example, banks and telecom operators manage millions of user identities across multiple channels, making access control a top priority. In government and healthcare, identity misuse can lead to data breaches with serious legal and societal consequences.

As digital transformation accelerates, these industries can’t afford weak identity practices. They need secure, auditable, and scalable ways to manage who has access to what and when. That’s where identity security becomes not just an IT concern, but a business continuity issue.

What made SPG decide to partner with Axidian, and how does this collaboration fit into your broader cybersecurity strategy?

We partnered with Axidian because identity has become the frontline of cybersecurity and many organizations in our region still struggle with fragmented, outdated access controls. We were looking for a partner that offers focused, effective solutions for strong authentication, access governance, and privileged access management. Axidian checked all those boxes.

This collaboration fits naturally into our broader strategy: delivering high-impact cybersecurity solutions, such as PAM and IAM, that are practical, scalable, and adapted to the realities of the North and West African market. With Axidian, we’re helping our partners move beyond reactive defense toward more structured, identity-driven security architectures.

What are SPG’s goals for attending SIT Africa alongside Axidian, and what do you hope to take away from the event?

SIT Africa is a great opportunity to connect with key players across the region and get a clear picture of what companies here actually need — not just in theory, but in day-to-day operations. It’s a space where we can exchange with decision-makers, partners, and future clients to better align our offer with the realities of the North and West African market.

What keeps it-specialists in the region up at night? What’s blocking execution on the ground? These answers will help us shape the way we support our partners going forward.

Going with Axidian gives us a strong angle: identity security that actually fits the North and West African context. Not overbuilt, not overhyped — just smart, focused tools that solve real issues we hear from banks, telecoms, and public sector players every day

At Axidian, we believe that strong partnerships are key to solving real-world security challenges. Our collaboration with SPG is just one example of how we’re working hand-in-hand with local experts to deliver practical, trusted solutions in access control and identity management. North and West Africa is a region of growth, ambition, and opportunity — and we’re here to support that journey with technology that works.
